Script language="javascript"...
Why do "webmasters" continue with their archaic, incorrect HTML practices?
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT"><!-- ... //--></SCRIPT> IS NOT VALID HTML!
If you people do not know how to do your job, STOP DOING IT OR START LEARNING.
Every day I have to continually fix mistakes other people have made, and the rampant misuse of HTML is all over the place, EVEN large-scale projects like OSCommerce - what a bloody joke. I am convinced there is no worse web application than OSCommerce, from the bloated coding style, to the impossibly tight integration of HTML tables within PHP statements to the outright abuse of HTML. Who in the hell ever gave these people the jobs, the time, the money to start producing such a wasteful pile of junk? There is no excuse for such blinding idiocy.
OSCommerce practically advocates ignorance in HTML because every person out there in the OSC Ecosystem writing contributitions CONTINUES to use the DEFAULT integrated table-based template.
And there's another bloody tradgedy of progamming.. Yea you can install "contributions" to the OSCommerce codebase. It's REAL easy to do, as long as you're an expert programmer and don't mind weeding through the differences between the contribution code and your own, especially because each contribution ASSUMES YOU HAVE A DEFAULT INSTALLATION. WTF?!
Ok, most of them are KIND ENOUGH to comment the major updates so you can easily adapt, but there is a point when you have so many contributions installed that you have to have a keen eye because NOTHING can just be replaced anymore.
It's pathetic, I hate it, I hate incompetent programmers, I hate idiots. I hate OSCommerce.

Watch out!
New inspiration gives way to motivation, and a new hope .. that one day, some year, soon, eventually, maybe... possibly this system will be finished.
I could continue and say a whole lotta nothing in a very time-consuming manner, but that would be rude. I am not a rude, mean, or otherwise unpleasant person - in fact, I consider my self to be the nicest person I know. That's saying a lot you know.
So, it is without further adeu that I thank you for reading this and you may continue on with your lives. Stay tuned because I will be starting some new work on this and it is very great!
Please enjoy, Thanks for coming, until next time, hasta la vista.
Thanks.
Regards,
nf
PS.. hahahah!

Vista.
Well, I recently installed a copy of the Vista CTP (Aka Beta 2 build 5308) and must say this O/S is taking a bit of a departure from the typical microsoft method, Aside from the nice eye candy which does serve a purpose (the hardware accelerated desktop compositing makes for very fast and smooth graphics) the very basics seem to be much imrpoved, such as explorer, the start menu which no longer takes over your screen with overlapping endless sub-menus, and a slightly nicer filesystem layout.
I'm not going to write a review, because there are plenty of them going around, however, I do have a nice screenshot available, PNG format of course, to show off every pixel in perfection.
I decided to see if the old Win2k hack program "Glass2k" would still work even though Vista has removed the GDI layer, and sure 'nuff, whole-window transparency! Thankfully it is not as slow as it used to be in Win2k/XP since those systems rely on software rendering, however, there is a bit of a performance hit with huge windows on my lowly Radeon 9550 graphics card, nothing too unusable however.
Here's a link to the Screen Shot:

Enjoy.

Getting sick of Google? Me too.
This is just amazing.. MSN Search is honestly giving me much more relevant results than Google or Yahoo. Too bad you have to bust your ass and type "search.msn.com" instead of something catchy and ridiculously impossible to forget, like, google...
Who cares if Google is "Do no evil" while Microsoft is monopoly central? Google is pissing me off lately and I'll just keep using MSN search as long as what I search for and the results I see are consistent..
Oh, so, you actually want an example? Well OK, Search Google for Bradenton Web Design - plain, no quotes, like an average Joe Businessowner-who-needs-a-website would do. Take a look at the results, notice at least the last four results have nothing to do with Bradenton Web Design other than meaningless keywords.
However, look at the legitimate sites that have raked #1-6 - See how much spam they shove in their meta keywords, descriptions, and title tags?
Ok, now, here's the REALLY INSANE part of my rant.. Go do the very same search on MSN Search. C'mon, I dare you.
Notice the results, they are all at least legitimate companies in the immediate market area, and you'll even see a couple you didn't see on Google.. like, hey, wait a minute.. JL Web Development ! How'd that happen? I didn't put "web design web design web design web site design tampa sarasota bradenton florida, florida" in my title tag! I didn't endlessly repeat words like "Bradenton" every 3 words, is MSN Search actually a viable contender to the search engine throne? I think so.
I have conducted other search queries, and in general, Google is becoming spam clogged and irrelevant.. If MS can keep their search engine clean, and put worthless tag spammers in their place, they can certainly become #1.
I have not had one incident where I couldn't find what I was looking for on MSN Search.
I hate Microsoft, but they deserve a big damn round of applause for finally making something that doesnt suck hard.
I also do not care whether Google falls off planet Earth, honestly.. they're not cool to me, and I don't get all jollied up when they get mentioned in the news.
Yahoo? I just don't care for yahoo that much. I use my Yahoo mail every month or so, and that's it. Their results are better, in a sense, at least on Yahoo I don't have to see the blatant spam sites on the first page of results, but the sites that have made it have done so with tag spam.
If this were a truly free nation, I could hire assassins to snipe all of these web designers who are guilty of fraudulently inflating their search rankings with tag spam. What's the matter? Don't have any real content on your web site? Tough luck. Learn your craft or find a new job.

Internet Explorer 7 born out of fear?
That's what *I* think at least..
Let's weigh the options here, back in the old days, there were two competitors fighting for the crown of the web. Netscape and Microsoft.
Microsoft got smart and bundled IE with operating systems, and fully-integrated the browser with the file manager in Windows 98.. Remember the holy hell that came from that wonderful feature..
I remember. It certainly sealed netscape's fate. Why go out of your way to download browser b, when you have browser A already. Some of the speculation is that Microsoft doesn't have to fight browser wars anymore, they already own the market.
I disagree.
Web developers have taken to standards like never before. CSS was published in the late 90's, yet it took 4 years for MS to make a browser fairly compatible, but why bother when you own the market? Everyone focuses on your browser when designing websites... or do they?
Professional web developers have been focusing much more on standards compliance than ever, and if Microsoft doesnt jump on the bandwagon, I wager they could face an all-out revolt.
I'd be the first.
Your website doesnt look right on Aunt Sue's computer? Well Aunt Sue needs to upgrade her browser software!
"But why?"
"Because, MS didnt fix IE 7 like we all hoped, and nobody supports it anymore. It's non-compliant with web standards.. in a nutshell, it's wrong."
"Oh. Ok."
There you go. More market share lost.
I for one am glad to see them making an effort though, however, from the latest results, they still have milestones to accomplish.. Let's hope they don't take as long as the mozilla project did originally... ®
